Founder’s Note

Historically, the word ‘Safari’ is understood to be on land, in a 4 x 4, travelling through the savannah and bush, looking out for a myriad of animals to photograph and watch. The word ‘safari’ actually comes from the Arabic word, Safara, meaning ‘a journey’, which was first used as a foreign word in the English language in 1858. Then included into the Swahili language and adapted to the Swahili verb ‘kusafiri’ which means 'to travel' and the noun safari.

We at Seas4Life have adapted that concept to the sea, where you travel in, on and around the sea to venture into the blue wilderness. Here you get up close and personal to marine wildlife including coral reef fish, sea turtles, groupers, sharks, barracudas, manta rays, dolphins and if you are lucky the elusive dugong and humpback whales on their northern migration. You can watch from the boat, or better still, join the marine creatures in their environment in a safe way.

You live on hand selected, live-aboards including 60ft luxury traditional dhows, 40ft, 56ft, 75ft and 85ft powered yachts/catamarans and super yachts. These boats are your mobile home, similar to mobile camping. They provide you with all the luxuries you want, and they come with the ocean toys i.e. skiffs for waterskiing and wakeboarding, stand up paddle boards, kayaks, scuba dive equipment. You are catered for by a crew that love their boat and their seas, and looked after by marine guides, each with an excellent knowledge of the Indian ocean, the ecosystems, marine life, are connected to the scientists, the communities and managers.

For those that are not accustomed to boats, and for particular adventures, such as the Sardine Run, we select coastal lodges and homes, suited to your needs and the safari. We provide you with excellent guides, and ensure that you are looked after, and given a unique sea safari experience, where you leave with a love and appreciation of the Ocean. Your adventures to the sea will be on an exclusive basis, where we select the boats, the crew and advise on the best locations to visit.

We also do a mix-match safari including land, lake and sea. We take you to places where many don’t normally venture, where there are species yet to be identified, or where scientists have discovered fascinating and world altering findings. We take you from the savannahs to the seas, or from the glaciers of Mr Kenya and Kilimanjaro to the sea, with the experts who are passionate about their work.

For those that only have a short period of time to ‘getaway’ we help put together a coast – lake adventure for you. We organize the safari for you, and can make it as action packed or relaxed as you like. We offer private homes and villas, unique boats, rustic coastal destinations and with them a list of activities for you.

We have chosen to operate in the Eastern African area, particularly the Indian Ocean and Red Sea due to its amazing, and lesser appreciated, coast, rich in seagrass beds, mangroves, coral reefs, beaches, rocky shores and culture! The challenge however is that we are operating in lesser-known parts of the world, where the experience and exclusivity is centre to our safaris. This is where Seas4Life comes in, as each sea safari requires a huge amount of research and logistical preparation, to ensure you get the best out of your adventure.

At Seas4Life we cover all the various elements of planning, including designing the safari, be it between land and sea-based experience; developing the itinerary, with the end goal being to create unique and extraordinary itineraries that suit your desires. We do this by building on our knowledge of the region, working with local operators, calling on the knowledge of specific scientists, to ensure that we provide you with the best possible ‘safari’ executed in a seamless and safe way, to the highest standards.
