Sardine Run 2024: A Phenomenon Shaped by Nature’s Whims

Seas4Life’s Triathlon Adventure: Racing to Restore Kilifi’s Mangroves
Under the scorching 2 p.m. coastal sun at Mnarani Club, the Seas4Life team joined 100 individual competitors and 50 teams in a thrilling 750m swim, 20km bike ride, and 10km run. The triathlon was to raise funds to restore Kenya’s mangroves. With 1 million KSH raised, donations are still open to help plant 30,000 trees and protect Kilifi’s coastlines.

Zanzibar evokes a sense of mystery, with its history of trading and beautiful seas. Ungunja Island (main Zanzibar) is renowned for its beaches, spice tours and globally recognised and protected Stone Town.
Aliwal Shoals
We briefly explored the Aliwal Shoals in June, after a wonderful week on the sardine run. I could not resist the opportunity having heard such wonderful tales and reports of the biodiversity we could encounter.
The Sardine Run
A mystery as intriguing and spectacular as the wildebeest migration takes place annually from mid May to end of July in the sea in South Africa. Millions of Sardines form great shoals moving northward along the East Coast.
